"Cold Fire"

Nowadays, rural fires are one of the major environmental problems, endangering natural rural areas, people and their property. However, fire is an integral part of our lives and is actually indispensable for the well being of everyone. In Portugal, fires are a common occurrence, as is natural in the Mediterranean region that features wet winters and dry summers. Very dry years, with heatwaves and high winds, can lead to catastrophic events like in the years of 2003, 2005 and 2017. It is therefore indispensable to take preventive measures. Traditional fires (agricultural burning and intentional farm fires) as well as controlled fires help prevention efforts by reducing the vegetation and creating patchworks in the countryside (breaks in the vegetation). Fogo Frio (Cold Fire) is an exhibition-game for children, youths and adults about PREVENTION.

"Geographies of fiction"

Cinema invented landscapes, depicting them in the magnitude of each shot, and in the extension of our projection of the images. But what film has constructed is also a pathway of collective memoryabout the time and way we have occupied ourselves and lived in these landscapes, transforming them, from a parallel and secret time prior to us, in which the landscape itself is a witness of our actions. The exhibition Geographies of fiction, that the FILMar project, organised by the Portuguese Cinematheque Cinema Museum, brings together a wide array of material photographs, posters, drawings, programmes, objects linked to the cited films, but using them to create geographical connections and timelines that cause us to reflect on how we look at a country and observe its embodiment on film. It is an exhibition about the narratives that we use as a starting point to experience a landscape, inventing spaces beyond what has been filmed. It is an exercise of imagination about the country as landscape, from the sea to the inland areas, along rivers and climbing up banks, constructing our ideas based on what lies beyond the fixed and material images of the films.
